Sofa Measuring Guide
How to measure your sofa to ensure it fits your space
Often when we think about our new sofas, the first thing that comes to our mind is its colour and shape. Which is fair, considering all our inspirations and vision boards. But usually we tend to forget about the size of our sofas, which might in fact play a significant role in designing your new room or just updating your furniture. The biggest challenge with buying sofas, however, might be the part of fitting them through the door (which as we know might be tricky sometimes). In this guide we will dive deeper into everything you need to know before buying a new sofa so that you will be able to find one that is perfect in every way.
How to measure a sofa
In order to properly measure your sofa, start by measuring its width, in other words the distance from one armrest to the other. Then, measure its height from the top of the backrest to the floor. At the end, measure the depth, so the distance from the back of the sofa to the front. Taking these measurements will help you understand how much space the new sofa will take in your room.

Measuring your space
Carefully measuring your sofa's designated place is a crucial part of any sofa buying journey. First of all, think about the space that you want to dedicate for your new sofa. We know it sounds like an easy task, but hear us out. Today, with the variety of available sofa styles, that task might be more tricky. Every style has its own dimensions and measurements and different ways of using it, which might result in taking more space than you'd think. If you’re considering a recliner sofa, you need to remember that due to their reclining system they take up more space than traditional sofas. Naturally, 2-seater sofas would be smaller than 3-seater sofas. If you’re planning on getting a sofa bed, you’ll need to take into consideration extra space when the bed is out. Take into consideration all of the sofa's measurements, like high, width and length.
Measuring for sofa delivery
How to fit a sofa through a door
One of the first places where your sofa will have to go through is your front door. Measuring your door beforehand could inform you if your purchase will be able to get inside your home. In order to measure your door properly, start by taking the measurement of the door frame. Go from top to bottom to measure its height, and from left corner to right in order to get the width of your doorframe. Then, check your desired sofa’s dimensions. There is a certain extra margin allowed, as sofas can be slightly rotated or maneuvered to easily fit through the door.
Will the sofa fit through my hallway?
Now that your new sofa made it through the doorway, let’s make sure it would go easily through the hallway. With your sofa dimensions in mind, measure your hallway width and length. Pay close attention to tight spots, especially turns. Some sofas can be rotated accordingly to pass tight spaces, so take that into consideration as well.
Will the sofa fit up the stairs or lift?
There’s a high chance stairs or a lift lead to your space. If so, it would be worth measuring the staircase width, height and corners. The staircase should be wide enough to fit the sofa (measured from the wall to banisters). Measuring the height of the staircase is optional, however, might be beneficial especially if the staircase has sharp corners. If there is a lift, carefully measure its dimensions, including the depth, width and height, as well as the height and width of the lift doors. Remember to check the weight limits as well.
Please note that our delivery is up to 5 flights of stairs or higher with adequate lift access. Please check the measurements against any staircases and lifts.
What if my sofa doesn’t fit?
If you’re unsure whether your purchase will fit through your door or hallway, we would suggest opting for a smaller size. However, if your sofa still doesn’t fit, you can always return it within 30 days. You can send the product back independently, or contact us to arrange a collection. Please note that the collection fee is £40/£60. The item must be disassembled and put back in its original packaging ahead of the collection.
